Launching the "Recycle for Life"
for the Prostheses Foundation project

On October 20, 2023, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, through the Department of Environmental Quality Promotion, launched the “Recycle for Life” for the Prostheses Foundation of H.R.H the Princess Mother. This initiative enhances waste management from the source, recycles it for societal benefit, and supports the Prostheses Foundation of HRH the Princess Mother by turning old aluminium cans into “prosthetic legs”.

The launch of “Recycle for Life” for the Prostheses Foundation project aims to encourage the public to return used aluminium beverage cans for recycling. This process supports the operations of the Prostheses Foundation of H.R.H the Princess Mother. The collaboration involves 9 agencies, including: 1. Department of Environmental Quality Promotion 2. Pollution Control Department 3. Prostheses Foundation 4. Sustainable Resource Management Foundation (3R Foundation) 5. Thai Beverage Industry Association 6. Thai Beverage Can Ltd. 7. Thai Beverage Recycle Co., Ltd. 8. BJC Big C Group 9. Wongpanit Suvarnabhumi Recycle Station Co., Ltd. The goal is to collect 1,800,000 used aluminium cans for recycling and to promote participation in the project. This includes increasing publicity for the event to encourage interested individuals to join activities, advocating for the public to separate used aluminium cans, enhancing awareness about the benefits of donating aluminium materials, and expanding donation channels for better accessibility. Additionally, the collected aluminium, donated through the network of collectors, can be converted into value based on purchase prices. The proceeds can then be reinvested in acquiring equipment and covering various expenses related to producing prosthetic legs, as well as supporting the operations of the Prostheses Foundation of H.R.H the Princess Mother

This event is a significant collaboration between the government, private sector, businesses, and consumers in waste management from the source, maximizing resource use and recycling benefits, and raising social awareness towards a recycling society. Everyone can start with themselves by choosing environmentally friendly packaging, conserving natural resources and the environment, and minimizing environmental impact. The public is encouraged to collect used aluminium drink cans to support the operations of the Prostheses Foundation of H.R.H the Princess Mother – said Somsak Sappakosolkul, Director-General of the Department of Environmental Quality Promotion.
