CE and Business Opportunities for Sustainability
Natural resources are dwindling every day. How can a Circular Economy solve this problem when humans still need these resources to survive?
Aluminium waste is one of the most recycled materials globally, and Thailand has a recycling rate for this material of over 90%. To promote a complete recycling loop and the domestic production of aluminium cans through closed-loop recycling, the government, private sector, and environmental organizations must collaborate effectively.
Thus, an MOU was established to promote the production of recyclable beverage packaging in Thailand, with a signing ceremony held on November 25, 2020, involving the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment through the Department of Environmental Quality Promotion and the Pollution Control Department, Mahidol University, the Sustainable Resource Management Foundation (3R), the Thai Beverage Industry Association, Thai Beverage Can Co., Ltd., UACJ (Thailand) Co., Ltd., and Anglo Asia Trading Co., Ltd.
This initiative supports the production of environmentally friendly packaging that can be recycled or reused, driving the circular economy through a public-private partnership integrating government agencies, private sector, civil society, and citizens to promote sustainable production, consumption, and waste management.
Under this MOU, each entity has specific responsibilities:
The business entities involved in the aluminium packaging recycling management system under this agreement include:
1.) Thai Beverage Can Co., Ltd.
2.) Anglo Asia Trading Co., Ltd.
3.) UACJ (Thailand) Co., Ltd.
